Movie Review — Ice Crawlers — Not To Be Confused With This Blog

Ice Crawlers (2003, 80 minutes)

Every couple of years somebody with money and connections gets the idea that he wants to be a filmmaker. He has this bright idea that it’s the perfect time to make another version of John Carpenter’s The Thing.

Ice Crawlers is an example of this occasion, complete with shots from The Thing. The same exact footage!

Oh, brother.

Everything in this movie is a rip-off, from the plot to the horribly cheap effects. There was an effort to make a real movie, but unfortunately that movie is a direct-to-DVD low-budget knock-off that manages to illicit laughter and snickers.

But I don’t hate this movie. In fact, it’s 80 minutes of B-Movie Garbage that managed to keep my interest . . . for a little while.

(As a sidenote, after falling asleep twice trying to get through this movie, I almost made it on the third attempt. I fell asleep with only five minutes to go. Let’s just call it a complete viewing and be done with it.)

1/2* out of ****
